What a day...
Man, a lot of ups and downs in the last day. It started in a trough, when my "I'm slowing down my drinking" turned into me passing out on a diner table at 5am, only to wake up to:
- notice all my friends were no longer there;
- learn that they gave our waiter a bigger tip for not waking me up; and
- a standing ovation from everyone at the restaurant as I left.
Things got a little better when I had my introduction to Old Blue rugby which included a fitness test. I got to meet my future teammates and they all seem like pretty cool guys, but word to the wise: extreme hangovers are not helpful during a fitness test.
After working out, I made my way up to the Guggenheim to see The Aztec Empire exhibit. I was fortunate enough to see some great exhibits/art this summer while I was in Europe, but this beat them all. It really was amazing. I did the full on audio tour and, without even looking at any of the other exhibits, I was there for almost two hours.
As this was my first New York experience that didn't include a lot of drinking and loss of memory, I was able to realize that cute girls aren't at bars, there at museums. It almost hints that being cultured and interesting is better game than drunk and slurring. Naaaaaaaaah.
Oh, quick side story: So as I'm listening to what the tassels on Chalchiuhtlic's headdress represent, I hear a guy telling this attractive woman about how he can look at "numbers" and stock prices and be able to predict peoples view of the future of a company. Now, while a 14th century art exhibit is obviously the perfect setting to try and impress a girl with your knowledge of financial markets, I was a little shocked by this one-way conversation. First, on a looks-only basis, this guy was way out of his league. So seeing him with her was a little surprising. But that's pretty shallow on my part; I'm sure he is very fun and interesting...oh wait. Second, the simple fact I could hear him giving this little spiel was a shock in itself. I had headphones on and was participating in the audio portion of my audio tour. So not only did this poor girl have to listen to just an awful story, but she had to have it yelled at her.
Anyway, all in all it was a great time. But, as I'm walking out of the museum door, I get a text message from one of my friends that goes to UT. She writes: "Texas is in rose!!!" While this doesn't seem like a big deal, it pissed me off to no end. I graduated from Cal and have planned on being in L.A. on the 1st for weeks. How a team ranked 4th in both the coaches and AP polls doesn't go to a BCS bowl is beyond me. At least Pitt got the BCS nod. I mean, they are ranked 21 in the nation. The Holiday Bowl can kiss my ass. The BCS sucks.
And are you kidding me with this?
